This regulation requires almost all window treatments sold in the US to have cordless designs or have cords specifically designed with safety devices. A New Window Cover Safety Standard
The Window Covering Manufacturers Association and American National Standards Institute has established a new safety benchmark for window treatment products. ANSI/WCMA A100.1-2022 is a voluntary standard that gives new requirements for window treatments that “reduce the possibility of injury, including strangulation, to young children from the bead chain, cord, or any type of flexible loop.”
Beginning June 1, 2024, window treatments sold in the United States have to satisfy this new safety standard. The majority of products will convert to cordless designs. Treatments with a continuous loop operating system must include a compliant tension device to prevent the loop from becoming a strangulation risk. These requirements will greatly decrease the number of window treatment cord injuries and deaths among small children.
